The Stupid Zone Episode 18

The Stupid Zone
Episode 18
I saw the smile on Naomi’s face disappear after I said those words. I did not understand why her countenance fell because I thought we were on the same page.
“What is it?” I asked.
She turned to me and started hitting my chest softly as tears fell from her eyes.
“Coward, coward, coward,” she kept saying as she hit me.
I took her in my arms and she cried even more. I waited for her to calm down before I asked her again. I was so confused and I was feeling very impatient but I knew Naomi was the kind that opened up about things only when she felt safe.
“Where have you been all these years? Why didn’t you say you loved me?” she suddenly asked and resumed hitting my chest.
“Naomi stop,” I said calmly as I held her at bay so I could look at her face.
I did not have answers to her questions so I just rubbed her back and hoped she stopped crying because I hated to see her cry.
“And why didn’t you keep in touch? Why did you have to come when I am already engaged?” she cried.
Then it dawned on me, if she was engaged to the hulk it meant she had a certain level of attachment towards him and it would not be easy to let go.
“I am here now.” I said as that was the only thing I could think of saying.
“It’s too late now,” she said in a very low voice.
“You are marrying him?”
“I promised him I would.”
I could not believe what I was hearing. I looked at Naomi in the eyes and I could tell she was not joking.
“Naomi we have found each other after so many years and you want to just give it all up?” I asked dumbfounded because I was ready to put off Tamia in the blink of an eye.
“I have met the guy’s family and he has met mine, the wedding date has been set, we have paid for almost everything and there are just so many people involved and they are all bound to get hurt. I have made peace with it, you should too. I waited for you, heck I pined and longed for you but you did not see me. Even when I tried to get your attention by making you jealous, you did not see me. But Robert on the other hand saw me. I didn’t have to try to impress him, he just saw me, a thing you never did.”
I felt my tear ducts begin to react but I reminded myself that men didn’t cry.
“I can’t take all that back but we can start from here.” I said calmly even though I was freaking out inside.
“We can’t Rich, it’s a little late for that.” She said as she untangled herself from my embrace.
“Then just answer this question, do you love him?” I asked her.
She faced the window so she could avoid my eyes.
“I wouldn’t be marrying him if I didn’t.”
“You are not answering the question Naomi. Look me in the eye and tell me you love Robert.” I persisted.
“I have to go now. It’s getting late. It was good seeing you.” She said and opened the car door and stepped out.
I also got out and rushed towards her pulling her into my arms as I took in her scent. She smelled of roses and violets and I loved it. My mouth sought hers but just when our lips were about to meet she pulled away and ran off into the dark. I followed her so I could see her safely get into her yard then I returned to my car and drove home.
That night, I could hardly sleep as my mind was on Naomi. I found Tamia asleep but she woke up when I walked in. She started shouting and asking where I had been but I just bypassed her and went into the bathroom. I locked the door and soaked in the tub for hours. I did not know I had fallen asleep until the water got cold and the cold woke me up.
I walked into the bedroom and found Tamia sleeping on the door rug that led to the bathroom. I woke her up so she could sleep on the bed. That night we made love but in my mind, it was Naomi I was with and not Tamia.
Tamia noticed I was a little detached but she didn’t say anything and we both eventually fell asleep: I pretended to anyway. That night I relived the pain of losing Naomi to another man. I eventually fell asleep in the wee hours of the morning and I was late for work.
I could not concentrate on anything tha
